Sustainable raw materials

60% of the environmental impact of an article of clothing is due to the first phase of production involving raw materials. That’s why Nova Fides pays particular attention to what raw materials are used in the production process.

We have decades of experience using recycled fibres that come from re-using discarded clothing, a practise in which Prato has been market leader for many years. Woolen fibres can be reworked with recycled nylon and polyester in order to create 100% recycled products such as Fiano Rag.

Nova Fides also uses virgin raw materials; in this case, our Sustainability Team carefully evaluates their provenance and request the necessary certifications that guarantee the least possible environmental and social impact. That’s how we created products like Lana Moretta, made from virgin fibres coming from sheep that have a characteristic grey colour – the result is a naturally coloured product that doesn’t require any dyeing.

SUPPLIERS AND TRACEABILITY

The production of a textile, from fibre to finished product, requires numerous steps. Nova Fides handles all the different steps, but of course we also collaborate with a network of qualified external suppliers. The whole process takes place in the Prato textile district, in the hands of companies that share the same production values and who adhere to the 4Sustainability protocol. In this way, traceability of the whole process is guaranteed, and it’s possible to determine the environmental and social impact of the production.

Sustainable packaging

Everything at Nova Fides is recyclable or re-useable, thaks to our internal Sustainability Team who analyses every production step. For example, samples are sent to clients in cardboard boxes that can be personalized or used in one’s archive.

Rolls of textiles, when ready for shipping, are wrapped with certified recycled plastic, which can be recognized by the fact that it is opaque.

Offcut management

Many of our products are made from recycled materials, but we go a step beyond! We also recycle offcuts from the production process. For example, the production process generates so-called “threads”, refuse from weaving and threading. We actually recycle it so that it stars in a new product.

Stock management

What about unsold textile stocks? Nova Fides generally produces upon request, but sometimes small quantities of textiles may remain unsold. In this case, we re-insert the lots on the market as stock, ideal for small brands or creative start-ups making capsule collections. If all else fails, we recycle it. We never throw anything out.
